Abstract:In this presentation, some recent research activities and results conducted at the Chair of Structural Mechanics, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Siegen, Germany, will be reported. In particular, the following topics will be addressed:
· Computational methods (BEM, meshless methods, X-FEM, etc.)
· Static and dynamic crack analysis of smart piezoelectric and magnetoelectroelastic (MEE)materials.
· Wave propagation in periodic composites or phononic crystals (PCs).
· Surface acoustic waves (SAWs) in smart coating structures.
· Thermoelastic crack analysis of functionally graded materials (FGMs) and structures.
· Sensitivity analysis of weakened and damaged structures.
Several examples will be presented and discussed to show the prominent role of appropriate theoretical modelling and efficient numerical simulation methods in the research of the mechanical and multi-field (electrical, magnetic, thermal) coupled behaviors of advanced material and structures in engineering sciences.
