Guangming Yao’s Biograph

May 8, 2013

Dr. Guangming Yao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Clarkson University, NY, USA.

She received her bachelor of science degree in mathematics and applied mathematics and her master of science degree in mathematics from Harbin Normal University, China, and her doctoral degree in computational mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Before coming to Clarkson, Yao was an assistant professor in mathematics at Rowan University, New Jersey USA. Before that, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee studying the mathematical modeling of calcium dynamics in heart muscle cells.

Yao's dissertation was on a localized meshless method for solving partial differential equations. Her research interests include computational mathematics and applied mathematics with focus on solving ordinary and partial differential equations using numerical techniques including meshless methods and finite element methods. She has worked on a variety of funded research projects in China, the U.S, and Europe.

Yao has written or co-written 14 peer-refereed publications. She also has participated in mathematics conferences and colloquiums, and has served as referee for multiple peer-reviewed academic journals and on committees.

Her honors include winning the University Doctoral Assistantship Competition at the University of Southern Mississippi; receiving the Innovation and Research Award from the University of Southern Mississippi; being selected as an Excellent Graduate Student in Heilongjiang Province, China; and winning the Outstanding Master Thesis award at Harbin Normal University.
