In this presentation we are introducing a new theoretical parameter for prediction of hot tears building in solidifying bodies, especially castings. Hot tears (hot cracks) are initiated during the solidification during the last state of phase changing – from liquid to solid state. We cannot predict the hot tears precisely. The only possibility is to indicate some regions in which the hot cracking can appear with different probability. Our new hot tearing parameter allows to point out such regions and the probability of hot tears arising. To calculate the values of our parameter it is necessary to provide calculations for solidification simulation as well as calculations of stress distribution. To achieve the goal we use the finite element method and macro and micro finite elements.
